Sky-Cam is an computer automated all sky camera system. designed to record a snapshot of the sky during daylight hours at preset intervals, 15 minutes, 30 minutes etc. The camera is switched on a few minutes prior to the exposure to allow time for heating and ensuring the fan has circulated the warm air to ensure a dew free dome.
This is one of two identical units, one located at the University of Tasmania and one at the University of Bangkok. A long term study is underway.
A similar system is located on the Mt Canopus 1.04 m telescope dome, used to monitor the night sky as an aid to planning exposure sets - allowing for cloud cover / breaks.
Images are analyzed with a separate software program developed by the University computer experts.
Design & manufacture by Shevill Mathers, S.M.Image Enterprises.
also, the electronic/PC expertise of Laurie Priest.
